Description
This little synthetic aquamarine stone, pear-shaped and faceted to show off its internal lustre has been set in a sterling silver wrap.
The stone, a delicate and clear light blue measures approximately 15mm high and 9mm wide (at the base) has been faceted so it catches the light from almost any angle.
The finished pendant, including bail, is approximately 38mm high and 13mm wide and is sure to earn many compliments for the wearer.
The chain on which the pendant was photographed is not included.
The technique of wire-wrapping is not new – it dates back to the early Egyptians. Wire-wrapping uses no solder or glues, the wire ends being neatly hidden away wherever possible. Because it is handmade with few tools and no machines, it is a one-off. Although there may be similar pieces, it is virtually impossible for me to repeat a pattern exactly because of the very nature of wire-wrapping.
It is also, by definition, imperfect but that’s part of the beauty.
When looking at the photos, be sure to also refer to the description for the colour, because computer monitors differ so much and can do strange things to colours.
