Description
An impressive black agate tumbled stone in a sterling silver wire wrap that shows off it’s size and near-perfect colour.
The tumbled stone is approximately 39mm high, 19mm wide and about 8mm thick. It is a nearly perfect black. There are markings on it, but they are only visible on very close inspection. The whole pendant, including bail, is approximately 67mm high and 23mm wide.
It’s a very handsome piece that will add some gravitas to any collection. Could be worn with almost anything from denim to silk.
The chain on which the pendant was photographed is not included.
The technique of wire-wrapping is not new – it dates back to the early Egyptians. Wire-wrapping uses no solder or glues, the wire ends being neatly hidden away wherever possible. Because it is handmade with few tools and no machines, it is a one-off. Although there may be similar pieces, it is virtually impossible for me to repeat a pattern exactly because of the very nature of wire-wrapping.
It is also, by definition, imperfect but that’s part of the beauty.
When looking at the photos, be sure to also refer to the description for the colour, because computer monitors differ so much and can do strange things to colours.
