Hematite has a unique sheen, giving the stone an almost slippery feel. This steel-grey tumbled stone in a sterling silver wire setting is a great example.
The stone is 20mm high and 18 mm wide, and the whole pendant is approximately 45mm high and 21mm wide.
It’s a distinctive and striking piece – very attractive – and the buyer will find a reason to wear it often.
The chain on which the pendant was photographed is not included.
The technique of wire-wrapping is not new – it dates back to the early Egyptians. Wire-wrapping uses no solder or glues, the wire ends being neatly hidden away wherever possible. Because it is handmade with few tools and no machines, it is a one-off. Although there may be similar pieces, it is virtually impossible for me to repeat a pattern exactly because of the very nature of wire-wrapping.
It is also, by definition, imperfect but that’s part of the beauty.
When looking at the photos, be sure to also refer to the description for the colour, because computer monitors differ so much and can do strange things to colours.
