This quality jasper cabochon is all business… from the elegant sweep of the mixed sterling silver and 14kt gold-filled wire (also known as rolled gold) wrap, to the beautiful clarity of colour in the stone.
The cabochon is approximately 25mm high and 18mm wide and is a patterned stone with a mottled effect of greens, creams, reds and browns interspersed with almost translucent creamy dots. The stone has a “glassy” quality giving depth to the pattern, a very nice specimen.
The whole pendant measures about 54mm tall and, 30mm wide, including the flamboyant sweep of twisted sterling silver wire and square 14kt gold-filled wire.
It’s a classy, unique piece of jewellery… a great addition to any collection.
The chain on which the pendant was photographed is not included.
The technique of wire-wrapping is not new – it dates back to the early Egyptians. Wire-wrapping uses no solder or glues, the wire ends being neatly hidden away wherever possible. Because it is handmade with few tools and no machines, it is a one-off. Although there may be similar pieces, it is virtually impossible for me to repeat a pattern exactly because of the very nature of wire-wrapping.
It is also, by definition, imperfect but that’s part of the beauty.
When looking at the photos, be sure to also refer to the description for the colour, because computer monitors differ so much and can do strange things to colours.
