Description
A neat oval mahogany obsidian cabochon spectacularly presented in a 14kt gold-filled wire (also known as rolled gold) sculpted wrap.
The cabochon is approximately 16mm high and 12mm wide and is a nut-brown stone with regular black tiger’s stripes, the angle of which is followed in a decorative sweep of wire. The whole pendant measures about 46mm tall and 22mm wide.
There’s plenty of the 14kt gold-filled wire on show here, as well as the handsome stone.
The chain on which the pendant was photographed is not included.
The technique of wire-wrapping is not new – it dates back to the early Egyptians. Wire-wrapping uses no solder or glues, the wire ends being neatly hidden away wherever possible. Because it is handmade with few tools and no machines, it is a one-off. Although there may be similar pieces, it is virtually impossible for me to repeat a pattern exactly because of the very nature of wire-wrapping.
It is also, by definition, imperfect but that’s part of the beauty.
When looking at the photos, be sure to also refer to the description for the colour, because computer monitors differ so much and can do strange things to colours.
