Description
Let this cute little orange bee brooch into your life, you won’t regret it.
The body is a 10mm pale orange bead and the head is a similar 8mm bead. The body has been crafted using 14kt gold-filled wire (also known as rolled gold) and, although it’s not strictly anatomically correct (it has four legs, not six), it’s a lot of fun and you can wear it knowing it is unique and will cause a lot of comment.
The brooch, which is about 30mm long and 28mm from wingtip to wingtip, is fastened with the handmade 14kt gold-filled wire pin running the length of the body underneath (see photo).
Match this cute little oange bee with confidence and a broad smile, it is sure to break the ice when you’re meeting new people.
The technique of wire-wrapping is not new – it dates back to the early Egyptians. Wire-wrapping uses no solder or glues, the wire ends being neatly hidden away wherever possible. Because it is handmade with few tools and no machines, it is a one-off. Although there may be similar pieces, it is virtually impossible for me to repeat a pattern exactly because of the very nature of wire-wrapping.
It is also, by definition, imperfect but that’s part of the beauty.
When looking at the photos, be sure to also refer to the description for the colour, because computer monitors differ so much and can do strange things to colours.
