Description
A 10mm Swarovski faceted bead makes a perfect bee body for this fun sterling silver wire brooch.
The head is a 5mm faux pearl, and while it isn’t anatomically correct – the bee has four legs, rather than six – it is very appealling and will draw many comments and envious glances.
The bead is a Swarovski Golden Shadow and it catches the light perfectly. The brooch is secured by a handmade sterling silver pin (clearly visible in the upside-down photograph).
The brooch is approximately 28mm long and 24mm wide from wingtip to wingtip, a fun addition to any jewellery collection.
The technique of wire-wrapping is not new – it dates back to the early Egyptians. Wire-wrapping uses no solder or glues, the wire ends being neatly hidden away wherever possible. Because it is handmade with few tools and no machines, it is a one-off. Although there may be similar pieces, it is virtually impossible for me to repeat a pattern exactly because of the very nature of wire-wrapping.
It is also, by definition, imperfect but that’s part of the beauty.
When looking at the photos, be sure to also refer to the description for the colour, because computer monitors differ so much and can do strange things to colours.
