Description
The Egyptians would have loved this very pretty pale blue turquoise cabochon set in a silver wire wrap.
The oval cabochon is approximately 20mm high and 15mm wide with beautiful black, grey and white styrations making a beautiful contrast against the pale blue background. The whole pendant is approximately 44mm high and 18mm wide.
The sculpted setting features a contrasting straight wire and a twisted, looped wire across the face of the cabochon, accentuating the vertical pattern of the natural markings.
The chain on which the pendant was photographed is not included.
The technique of wire-wrapping is not new – it dates back to the early Egyptians. Wire-wrapping uses no solder or glues, the wire ends being neatly hidden away wherever possible. Because it is handmade with few tools and no machines, it is a one-off. Although there may be similar pieces, it is virtually impossible for me to repeat a pattern exactly because of the very nature of wire-wrapping.
It is also, by definition, imperfect but that’s part of the beauty.
When looking at the photos, be sure to also refer to the description for the colour, because computer monitors differ so much and can do strange things to colours.
